Hi! I’m Pauline Brown,
NSCA-CPT/CES Cancer Exercise Specialist

I have over 40 years of experience in the fitness industry and am the owner of LIFT-4U.  I feel truly blessed to be able to work within my passion.  My goal is to increase the health of my family, friends and clients through fitness. I hold many certifications in different group exercise and personal training modalities.  As a cancer exercise specialist and a breast cancer survivor myself, I have the knowledge and experience to work with cancer patients prior to surgery, during treatment and post-surgery.

I have always had a passion for fitness. I began teaching group exercise classes over 40 years ago as a hobby. It was not because I wanted to be in the “star” role, but because I truly wanted to help people live a healthier life through fitness.

Today, my mission remains the same. My goal is for my clients to become healthier, not only in body but in mind as well. Healthy living is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix.

Over 40% of Americans today are considered overweight or obese.  Our children from adolescence to their teens range from 18% to 22% obesity rate.

With education and coaching from me, I can help you to live a healthier life through exercise. Whether you just want to firm up and change your body composition or you need help from ground zero to safely and comfortably perform “daily living activities”, contact me.

 My Family & Hobbies

I am blessed in SO many ways. I have a wonderful husband, Bob, 2 great daughters, Danielle & Kellie, and 2 awesome grandsons, Jacson & Keaton (who joined us in July during the pandemic) as well an amazing granddaughter Miya.

Danielle’s family includes her husband Dave and Jacson. Dave is a chief in the Navy while Danielle is a nurse. Jacson followed in his parent’s footsteps and joined the Navy in 2020.

Kellie is an assistant professor at CSU Long Beach and her husband, Micah, is a regional director for Mondo.  Their son, Keaton, joined us in July during the pandemic.

My family also includes 3 dogs; Kimber (Corgi), Magnum (Corgi) and Ruger (Corgi), Dorian (African Grey) and 3 cats, (Cali, Co and Casper).

When I’m not busy with my family or training, I love to ride on 2 wheels both leg powered and motor powered. When I ride on my bicycle, I love to ride to places like Estes Park, Horsetooth Reservoir, Rist Canyon, Cheyenne and the many beautiful areas to ride in our local area.

My motor powered bike is a Harley Davidson V-Rod that is a Tribute to 9-11. My husband Bob and I met in Narita, Japan because of the 9-11 crisis.

The Bike

My husband and I had this custom painted as a wedding gift to each other since we met because of the 9-11 event. If you notice, it isn't just a patriotic bike, it is specific to the 9-11 event.

Our painter asked if he could enter it into a local motorcycle show. The bike won first place for paint and people's choice. This started us on a path of showing the bike.

We were in American Iron Motorcycle Magazine and Jay Leno actually called me regarding our bike. The biggest honor - the 4th year anniversary of 9-11, people saw our bike in American Iron and I was called and asked to be the lead motorcycle in a police escorted ride into ground zero on 9-11. I pretty much cried the whole ride. It was a very emotional day and one I will always remember.

Kind words from my daughters

From the time I was a little, and it was just my mom and me, my mother has always been my hero. She has shown me what it was to be an independent woman, to fight for what I believe in and to strive for my personal best no matter what life throws at me. My mother has been there for me throughout my life and has always been a guiding light in my hard times. She has helped me stay on track and supported me even when I stumbled.

Being a parent now I can only fully understand how hard I made that for her in my early years’ but her support and love never wavered. My mother has never stopped showing her support and love for those around her, not even when she was in the middle of her own battle with cancer.

Amazingly, and against my sister and I’s suggestions, our mother was up the day after surgery working at her stand-up desk, she never let her cancer diagnosis slow her down or interrupt her life more than necessary.

My mom’s dedication to her friends and clients is something that inspires me to be better in everything I do. Now I am blessed with the opportunity to live near her again and I thank God every day for that chance. She truly shows me how important it is to live every day to the fullest, to love, laugh and put 100% into everything you do.

When I was 4 years old, my mother quizzed me on muscle groups while in the bathtub.
When I was 8 years old, I sat in the corner of aerobics studios rather than being babysat.
When I was 15 years old, I attended my mother's graduate courses.
When I was 18 years old, I obtained my first group fitness certification and enrolled in the Kinesiology major at SDSU.

I am now a professor in the Kinesiology Department at California State University, Long Beach and owe my passion and enjoyment for the health and fitness industry to my mother. My mother is the most driven and intelligent woman I know, and I truly admire her tenacity and dedication to her clients and this field. I am so thankful to have been raised by such a beautiful and inspirational woman. She made what so many people find to be a chore...fun. I love to be active and I enjoy eating healthy, all because that is how I was raised.

In the summer of 2017, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Throughout this process, she has handled everything with poise, from confusing lab reports to overwhelming doctor’s visits. When she met with the surgeon, her first question was "can I wait until after the IDEA Fitness Convention"? Only my mother would prioritize a fitness convention over a major surgery.

The day after her surgery, she was up at 6:30 am working as if nothing happened. She went grocery shopping, went to the movies, got her nails done, and mowed the lawn...all while still having her drains attached. My mom's nurse navigator said she has never seen anyone heal as quickly as my mom.  Without a doubt, one of the reasons my mom has healed so quickly is because of how healthy she was going into surgery. If that's not a reason to love your body and treat it right, I'm not sure what is.

To say I am proud of my mom is an understatement. I have always admired her strength but now I have a new level of respect for her. She is my real-life Wonder Woman.

1.

I have four Corgi's - their names are Kimber, Magnum, Ruger, and Bullet

2.

I recently reunited with my Japanese family after 47 years. I am 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 Italian. My mother was Japanese, and I was actually born in Japan.

Sadly, as a result of the Nagasaki bombing (when she was 7,) my mom passed away at 34. I returned to the US before I could see her grave.

Reuniting with my Japanese family and finally getting to visit my mom’s grave was one of the most precious times in my life.

I met my husband in Japan because of the 9-11 events. I am from California originally - Bob is a native Coloradoan. I was in Japan visiting my daughter who was in the Navy at the time stationed in Misawa Japan. She made me a grandmother so I was visiting my grandson. Bob has an International company and he was in Japan on business. 9-11 happened while we were in Japan and we met in the airport waiting to get back to the United States.

I started teaching group exercise in 1981 but it was never my full-time work (just didn't pay the bills) but it has always been my passion. I have a Masters Degree in Business and was in corporate America for most of my adult life. I am truly blessed that when I moved to Colorado, I was able to follow my passion and open L4U in October of 2008. I'm surely not making the "big bucks" anymore but you can't put a price tag on doing something you love!!!!!

I took myself away from my abusive father when I was 14 and lived with a wonderful foster family. I gained 5 beautiful sisters from it!

7.

Due to my abuse from my father, I always wanted to give back to the community so I was a volunteer and served on the board of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for many years. CASA works with abused and neglected children.
