Spring is in the air!!!!!

10 REASONS TO EMBRACE THE BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE AND EXERCISE OUTDOORS

  1. It lowers blood pressure and reduces stress. Studies have shown that exercising outdoors can “feel” less strenuous therefore allowing you to push harder to your maximum performance.

  2. Helps with insomnia. There is something SO wonderful about the fresh air. When fresh air is combined with exercise, it is a recipe for better sleep.

  3. Sunshine. The natural light invigorates the mind and body. The sun provides necessary vitamin D. Roughly 40-45% of the U.S. population is vitamin D deficient. Sunshine also enhances energy generation in the muscles and oxidation of the tissues. While exercising outdoors, especially for a long time, do stay hydrated and apply sunscreen afternoon you absorb the necessary vitamin D (10-30 minutes, several times per week depending on how sensitive your skin is to sunlight).

  4. It’s free! Great for the wallet. After your workout, spend the money you would have spent on the gym membership and go get a healthy meal.

  5. Saves time and nature. Most likely you have a park, trail, hills nearby. Walking to your local area increases your steps and can save nature by not having to drive to the location.

  6. Your regular workout becomes varied. It is important to your body to change things up. Your body is very smart and adapts to doing the same thing over and over. Exercises outside usually are body weight exercises which are multi-joint movements and very effective. Outdoor exercises can increase balance, coordination and mobility as well.

  7. Something new. Trying different things stimulates the body and mind. It can help break up the “status quo” of your routine.

  8. Change in environment. Depending on where you live geographically, it is not always viable to exercise outside. When you have the chance, make the change. Your body and mind will appreciate you for getting outside of what can be a stuffy, dark gym.

  9. Great opportunity to train together with family and/or friends. If you have to go it alone, you never know you might meet your newest “bestie”.

  10. Better mood. Overall, the benefits of exercising outside are bar none in enhancing your mood!

What are you waiting for? Embrace the spring season and get out there! Your body and mind will thank you!!!!
