May - Allergies & Pound

Written by Pauline Brown.

May brings spring flowers and allergies for some.  LIFT4U is also launching a new group exericse program called "pound" at the Windsor Community Recreaton Center!

Happy May! Spring is here and so is allergy season for many. Hay fever is one of the most common types of allergy. If you are looking for a natural remedy, try butterbur extract. Butterbur can be as effective as over the counter antihistamine without the traditional drowsiness that can happen and it is all natural. Other great natural remedies include freeze-dried nettle and saline nasal spray (neti-pot). If you look into your kitchen, spices like cayenne pepper, hot ginger, fenugreek and traditional onion and garlic can help. These spices help to thin mucous secretions. Local honey can sometimes help as consuming local honey can help your body adapt to the allergens in your environment. Peppermint tea and probiotics are also good for allergy control as well. Other good ideas to control allergies are; have a good filtration system, sounds odd but wash your pets often as they carry the irritants from outside to inside. Wishing you all a happy and allergy free May!!!!!

POUND is a full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, isometric movements, plyometrics and Isometric poses into a 45-minute series. Burn between 400 and 900+ calories per hour, strengthen and sculpt infrequently used muscles, and drum your way to a leaner, slimmer physique – all while rocking out to your favorite music!  See the LIFT-4U calendar for dates and times as this class is only offered once a month!
